Essay on Causes of Global Warming – Causes and Measures to Control Global Warming (Essay 1 – 200 Words)

Introduction:

Causes of global warming are undoubtedly the consequence of human activities. Global warming is the process in which greenhouse gases are produced in such large amounts that they increase the temperature of the earth in an erratic manner.

Causes:

The main causes of global warming are smokes and ashes resulting from the heavy usage of automobiles, growing industries, and the burning of fossil fuels. Deforestation, chlorofluorocarbons ejected from the refrigerators and other electrical appliances are other causes of global warming. Generally, the causes of global warming is divided into two types. They are –

Natural Causes:

The natural causes of global warming include volcanic eruptions. The volcanic eruptions release a lot of smokes and gases into the atmosphere, thus causing global warming.

Man-Made Causes:

The man-made causes of global warming includes the cutting down of trees, burning of fossil fuels, excessive release of smokes from industries and vehicles, use of CFCs in refrigerators, etc.

Measures to Control Global Warming:

We can overcome these negative outcomes by working on the causes of global warming. Planting more trees, adopting a greener lifestyle and replacing plastics with common biodegradable products are effective solutions.

Conclusion:

We must take every possible measure in order to even out the results and causes of global warming and protect our planet earth.

Essay on Causes of Global Warming – Burning of Fossil Fuels, Deforestation, Fertilizers, Pesticides, Air Pollution and Non-Degradable Products (Essay 2 – 250 Words)

Global warming has become one of the major concerns for too many people. There is something which we need to do at the earliest to make sure that our environment is saved before it gets too late.

In order to deal with the problem of global warming, let us understand some of the possible causes of global warming.

Burning of Fossil Fuels:

The excessive use of fossil fuels is one of the key causes of global warming. Burning of fossil fuels tend to release carbon dioxide which gets trapped in the environment and contributes to global warming.

Deforestation:

The merciless cutting down of trees endlessly is another key cause of global warming. Trees are required to have adequate oxygen supply and to curtail the carbon dioxide levels. With massive deforestation, we are also disturbing the ecological balance of nature.

Fertilizers and Pesticides:

Using fertilizers and pesticides are also detrimental. Not only do they end up impacting the quality of natural soil but they also kill a lot of native plants and animals as well. The manufacturing of such fertilizers are done in massive plants which release harmful gases in the atmosphere leading to global warming.

Air Pollution:

There are several human related causes of air pollution which includes using too many vehicles for commuting. The release of these harmful gases in the atmosphere is another key cause of global warming.

Non Bio-Degradable Products:

We use too many non biodegrade products like plastic which end up damaging our environment and creating the problem of global warming.

Conclusion:

So, it is about time, we take a stand and make efforts to reduce the causes of global warming in order to ensure a healthy environment.

Essay on Causes of Global Warming (Essay 3 – 300 Words)

There are many different causes of global warming most of them are linked with human industry and everyday practices, like driving cars or using fossil fuel as a source of heat. There are so many instances in which mankind has contributed to climate change that we cannot name them all in one essay. What we can do is look at the major causes of global warming and how they can be controlled.

Causes:

There are natural causes of global warming like the shift in the position of the planets that stand a few degrees closer to the sun and volcanic eruptions.

However, the majority causes of global warming is because of human activities. Industrialization and urbanization are the main causes of global warming. The causes of global warming are linked with industry and the burning of fossil fuels which in turn release greenhouse gases that heat up the atmosphere. This link of destruction is not the only cause but general misuse of the environment can also be seen as a cause of global warming.

Practices like the burning of fossil fuel, to the cutting down of trees and the release of toxic smoke into the atmosphere are seen as causes of global warming. They are all part of collective ignorance of the dangers behind everyday practices. Sadly this lack of attention is endangering our quality of life through climate change.

Conclusion:

The causes of global warming are well known to many people but we seldom make an effort to change our daily practices so that we can have a better quality of life and maybe even create a brighter future for our children and the people that will come after us. Global warming is not an irreversible process we just have to make an effort and save the Earth.

Essay on Causes of Global Warming – For School Students (Class 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 Standard) (Essay 4 – 400 Words)

Causes of global warming are acts and omissions that has led to the spread of global warming in the world. Global warming is generally man-made. While there might be some natural causes of global warming, it is largely man-made. Thus our individual effort plays a major role in this phenomenon.

Global warming threatens the entire human existence. As our planet gets hotter it becomes more difficult for plants and animals to live in an ideal environment. This can lead to serious consequences to the human race also. Thus, it becomes important to understand the causes and invariably try to reverse the trend.

The Man-Made Causes of Global Warming:

Humans have contributed immensely to the causes of global warming. By our acts or in some cases failure to act, we have facilitated its growth. The pertinent question would be – what are those acts? The answers are provided below:

The Burning of Fossil Fuel:

The effect of fossil fuel as a cause of global warming cannot be underestimated. It is by far the most prominent reason for its growth. When we use fuel such as oil, coal, and gas, we release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in large quantity.

Our cars are powered by either petrol or diesel engines. Also, the electricity we consume is largely produced by burning coal. These acts encourage global warming leading to a less safe environment for everyone.

Deforestation:

One would think that the carbon dioxide released by the burning of fossil fuel can be simply absorbed by trees. The reality is not so because of the cutting down of trees. As we cut down more trees, we reduce the number of trees that can sulk in all that carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, thus becoming a cause of global warming.

Animal Farming:

Animal farming as a cause of global warming is peculiar to livestock farming. Livestock animals release methane which causes pollution to our atmosphere. Also, some manure used by farmers contains nitrous oxide which leads to air pollution as well.

Natural Causes of Global Warming:

Though it has been emphasized that most of the causes of global warming are man-made, there are some noteworthy natural causes. First, there is the impact of volcanic eruptions on our environment. The second is the variation in solar radiation leading to an imbalance in the atmosphere. These factors and many others are instrumental to climate change.

Conclusion:

Since we have identified the causes of global warming, the more important task would be to find viable solutions for them. These solutions would be aimed at man-made causes as they can be controlled by us as humans.

Essay on Causes of Global Warming – With Ways to Overcome Global Warming (Essay 5 – 500 Words)

Introduction:

Causes of global warming should be identified to solve the main problem. Today, global warming is one of the serious issues which have altered numerous forms of life on earth.

Global warming is increasing the surface temperature of the earth day by day that will surely be going to affect people’s future. The causes of global warming are divided into 2 groups i.e. “natural causes” and “human impacts” of global warming.

Natural Causes of Global Warming:

The temperature of the earth is constantly changing due to global warming.

The following are the natural causes of global warming:

i. The global warming occurs due to the natural sun’s rotation which changes the power of sun rays while getting nearby towards the earth.

ii. One more causes of global warming are the greenhouse gases which stop the solar radiations to evade from the earth’s surface. It results in the rise of earth’s temperature eventually.

iii. The eruptions of volcanoes are one of the main causes of global warming in which a large number of ashes and carbon dioxide are realized in the atmosphere.

iv. The release of methane gas is also the important causes of global warming that traps the heat inside the atmosphere. The sources of methane gas are landfill, petroleum systems, natural gas, mobile explosion, coal mining, or industrial waste procedure.

Human Impacts Resulting in the causes of Global Warming:

There are numerous human activities that have become the big causes of global warming at present, like:

i. There is lots of usage of fossil fuels in the industries for running the machines in which carbon dioxide is released in the environment.

ii. At the time of mining, the methane gas gets stuck under the earth which results in the causes of global warming.

iii. The absorption of carbon dioxide is only done by trees from the atmosphere. But the deforestation makes the carbon dioxide to stay inside the atmosphere which results in the causes of global warming.

Ways to overcome the Global Warming:

If we want to overcome the causes of global warming then, the governments of the nations along with their citizens have to come forward together.

Below you can find a few ways that can provide the solution to the problem of global warming to a great extent:

i. To decrease global warming the impact of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere should be reduced like, decreasing gasoline related activities such as running of cars, etc.

ii. Recycling is one more important solution that can reduce the effects of global warming. It decreases the amount of garbage by recycling plastic bottles, bags, glasses or papers.

iii. Reducing the deforestation can also help us in saving our precious environment from global warming.

iv. Purchasing the energy-efficient electrical products also helps in saving a large amount of carbon dioxide to reach the atmosphere.

Conclusion:

It is very important to understand the actual causes of global warming if we want to solve the problem of global warming seriously. Global warming is causing lots of problems. If we don’t take any steps to overcome the causes of global warming then, soon a time might come when the life existence will become impossible on earth.

Essay on Causes of Global Warming (Essay 6 – 600 Words)

Introduction:

Causes of Global Warming have been a subject of research as well as debate since the last decade. While there are some natural reasons for the increase in temperature on the Earth, there is no denying that humans have also played an important role in the increase in Global warming. So, what are the main causes of global warming?

Causes of Global Warming:

There are many activities which can be attributed to the causes of global warming. They can be categorised as natural causes of global warming and man-made causes of global warming.

The extensive use of petroleum derivatives, for example, coal, oil and flammable gas activated by the beginning of modern era are the principal causes of the increase in temperature on the Earth.

Natural Causes – There are some natural causes of global warming as well such as the volcanic eruptions. The volcanic eruptions release a lot of gases and heat in the environment thereby altering the overall temperature of the region. Also, naturally occurring carbon dioxide in the atmosphere acts as a greenhouse effect and traps the heat of the Sun. This again increases the overall temperature on the Earth and causes global warming.

Movement of Crustal Plates underneath the Earth is another of the natural causes of global warming. The movement of these plates alters the global circulation pattern over the ocean waters and the air. This, in turn, affects the cycle of distribution and movement of climatic conditions on the Earth. In fact, due to this very reason, the Northern Hemisphere of the earth has warmed more than the Southern Hemisphere. Primarily it is due to the fact that there is more land concentration in the northern hemisphere as compared to the southern part which has been affected due to the movement of crustal plates.

Moreover, the El-Nino effect which occurs in the Pacific region over the ocean waters and the atmosphere around it has also been responsible for global warming.

Man Made Causes of Global Warming Power plants, processing plants, and vehicles have been consuming these fossils fuels since the modern age, discharging gigantic measures of gases, especially causing the greenhouse effect. This greenhouse effect leads to the trapping of heat in the Earth’s atmosphere which is further responsible for the increase in the temperature of the earth. These, as well as other activities of humans, have led to global warming on the Earth.

Evidence of Role of Human Activities in Global Warming:

It has been well established the main gas contributing for the trapping of heat in the earth’s atmosphere is Carbon-dioxide. Researchers have long realized that ozone-harming substances in the environment, for example, carbon dioxide, methane, or water vapour retain certain frequencies of infrared radiation and dissipate them back toward the Earth. These gases basically keep warm from getting away also rapidly again into space, catching that radiation at the surface and keeping the planet warm. This is strong evidence of the role of human activities in global warming as deforestation has led to an increase in carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere.

Conclusion:

There is no doubt that the, although we are aware of the causes of global warming, very little, has been done so far so as to prevent further global warming of the Earth. However, it is not something which can be achieved by the measures taken the governments alone. It is the people all over the world who need to be sensitive about the need for this prevention. Unless and until we support the government in its initiative nothing can be achieved. We must all strive to preserve the environment so as to give sustainable living conditions to future generations.

Essay on Causes of Global Warming – For College Students (Essay 7 – 750 Words)

The various causes of global warming are:

Greenhouse Gases:

Greenhouse effect can be said to be the process through which emission and absorption of radiation of infrared by the gases that are present in the atmosphere of a planet warm the lower surface and atmosphere of the planet. Joseph Fourier proposed it in 1824, John Tyndall discovered it in 1869, Svante Arrhnius quantitatively investigated it in 1896, 1912 was the year it was reported as a hypothesis. Between the 1930s and 1960s, Stewart Callender further developed global warming as a description scientifically.

Different human activities ever since the commencement of the famed industrial revolution have gone a very long way in increasing the quantity of gases of greenhouse that are present in our atmosphere and this has led to radiative forcing increasing as a result of nitrous oxide, CFCs, tropospheric ozone, methane and carbon dioxide. Studies have shown that there has been an increase in the concentration of methane and carbon dioxide and methane by 148% and 36% respectively starting from 1750.

The levels are the highest at any point in time for about 800,000 years now which is the time frame which data that is reliable was gotten from cores of ice. Geological evidence that are less direct have indicated that the level of carbon dioxide now is the highest that has been witness for more than twenty million years now. Human activities like burning of fuels (fossils) and deforestation have also greatly contributed to the gases of greenhouse which are ultimately the causes of global warming.

Soot and Aerosols:

Global dimming can be said to be a reduction that is gradual in the quantity of direct irradiance globally at the surface of the earth and it was observed between 1961 to about 1990. Liquid and solid particles that are called aerosols usually produced by pollutants that are human made and volcanoes are believed to be major causes of global dimming. When the incoming sunlight’s reflection is increased, there is usually one cooling effect that is exerted.

Soot and aerosols are yet another cause of global warming. All of the many effects and impacts of products from the combustion of fuel of fossils – aerosols and carbon dioxide have offset each other partially in recent times, which have made net warming a result of an increase in gases of greenhouse that are not carbon dioxide like methane. The processes which remove forms of aerosols away from our atmosphere temporarily limit radiative forcing that is as a result of aerosols. Removal by precipitation and clouds usually gives aerosols that are tropospheric a lifetime that is atmospheric of about one week while aerosols that are stratospheric can continue to exist for some years.

The lifetime of carbon dioxide is usually about 100 years or even more and as a result of this, carbon dioxide enforced climate changes will be delayed by aerosol changes. After carbon dioxide, the next major contributor to the global warming is black carbon. While carbon dioxide usually contributes between 40% and 45%, black carbon contributes about 17% to 20% of global warming.

Solar Activity:

The role that the sun plays in the climate change recently has been examined by the use of climate models. When the variations in volcanic activity and solar activity are only taken into account, climate models were not able to replicate the observed rapid warming that we have witnessed in recent years. Satellites have been used to measure solar irradiance since 1978. The atmosphere of the earth having at levels that are different, temperature changes that are different is major evidence in line for the non-attributability of the sun.

According to physical principles that are basic, greenhouse effect usually produces the warming of lower atmosphere (troposphere), cooling of upper atmosphere (stratosphere).if the warming that was observed was as a result of solar variation then it should be expected that both the stratosphere and the troposphere would undergo warming.

Earth’s Orbit Variations:

The axis of the earth’s tilt and also the shape that the earth’s orbit round the sun has varied slowly and slightly over hundreds of centuries, as a result of this, climate is changed though changing the latitudinal and seasonal distribution solar energy that is incoming at the surface of the earth.

Over the past centuries, this phenomenon has be huge in contributing to the slow trend of cooling at latitudes that are high in the Hemisphere that is northern during summers, by the twentieth century, this trend was reversed as a result of warming that was induced by gases of greenhouse. We do not expect to have orbital cycles that are quite favourable for the process of glaciation in about 50,000 years.

Essay on the Causes of Global Warming Long Essay for Competitive Exams (UPSC, IAS, IPS and Civil Services Exam) (Essay 8 – 1000 Words)

Introduction:

Global warming is the increase in temperatures of the earth that is caused due to many natural as well as human factors. Since the 1950s, the industrial revolution in the world has precipitated the occurrence of global warming. The cause of global warming range from natural causes to those activities done by man.

Currently, the rate at which global warming is affecting our lives is alarming, and I would attribute this to the environmental pollution that we are facing in India and across the world. Knowing the causes of global warming is the first step in trying to find solutions and prevention strategies.

Natural Causes of Global Warming:

The earth is a planet whose rotation around the sun is a natural eclipse. The eclipse varies in shape which can affect the orbit pattern of planet earth. The trajectory motion of Planet Earth about the sun causes temperature variations because as the Earth gets closer to the sun, temperatures on earth rise and when the Earth is far from the sun, the temperatures drop.

As the distance of Earth from the sun decreases, it causes global warming because of the high temperatures that are experienced on earth when that happens. The orbit and distance from the sun is a cause of global warming that is beyond human control, and it will just happen whether we like it or not. The intensity or the strength of the sun can cause global warming. Since the sun’s output is not constant, sometimes the concentration is too much and it causes scorching climate and sometimes the strength is not as substantial and therefore it will not be scorching.

Another natural cause of global warming are the natural occurrences like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The movement of the ground plates during an earthquake causes a differential shift of positions around the globe which eventually causes global warming. An example is a shift in the position away from the equator that causes a colder climate than before or the movement of a continent closer to the equator that causes a rise in temperatures. These changes may seem insignificant when it is just one continent, but upon the involvement of many continents, it becomes a cause of global warming.

Volcanic eruptions cause global warming mainly because of the gases and dust particles released by volcanoes. It has been determined that volcanic eruptions release greenhouse gases, e.g., carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Depending on the interaction of sunlight with these games from volcanic eruptions, they are most likely to cause global warming.

Ocean currents can cause global warming as well. Did you know that oceans store a large amount of heat? Well, it has been determined that oceans store heat and through the ocean currents, the heat is distributed around the earth. A slight disturbance in these ocean currents causes global warming because that will cause more heat to be carried to one or more of the earth’s regions hence causing an increase in temperatures of those particular regions. Ocean currents play a major role in climate changes that take place on the earth’s surface.

Adding to the oceanic factors, another cause of global warming is the accumulation of carbon dioxide that accumulates in the ocean. When carbon dioxide is in the ocean, it is different from when it is in the atmosphere because it does not cause a greenhouse effect, i.e., it does not trap heat within the ocean as it does in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide in the ocean causes global warming only when it is released to the atmosphere.

Human Causes of Global Warming:

Among all the human activities, industrialization is one of the leading causes of global warming. Due to the increase in industrialization, more and more greenhouse gases are being emitted into the atmosphere as a result of the different processes carried out in the different industries. . Examples of greenhouse gases are methane, water and carbon dioxide. Greenhouse effect happens when these greenhouse gases are collected in the atmosphere, and the heat radiations hit the earth’s atmosphere, thus resulting in global warming.

Deforestation is another cause of global warming. Due to the increasing demands of people for land for different construction purposes, trees are being cut and forest are being cleared. Trees help in absorbing the excess heat, but the absence of trees results in the increase of temperature of the Earth’s surface, thus leading to global warming.

Burning of fossil fuel is another cause of global warming. Electricity is produced by the burning of fossil fuel. Fossil fuel is also used for cooking purpose, in machineries, in running of vehicles, etc. All these processes emit harmful greenhouses gases into the atmosphere, which causes global warming.

The increasing level of pollution is another cause of global warming. The normal process of the atmosphere usually reflects the radiant heat, but because the atmosphere has been interrupted by pollution, the radiant heat is not reflected back into the atmosphere. Continuous accumulation of radiant heat in the atmosphere causes a gradual rise in temperature and eventually causes global warming on the biosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere.

The greenhouse gas emissions have been significantly heightened when we compare to the atmospheric levels during the preindustrial period. Measures must be taken in order to curb all the increasing global warming and make the Earth cooler.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, it is evident that the causes of global warming are both natural and human-induced factors. The fact that natural causes of global warming are beyond human control is worrying, but I believe it is a good thing because it does not happen as often.

Human causes of global warming are of more concern because the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted to the atmosphere is enormous and that means the faster advancement in global warming. It raises an environmental concern into controlling greenhouse gases emissions to the atmosphere. Identifying the causes of global warming are essential because they will help us a great deal when it comes to finding solutions.
